Kindle Fire

I played around with a friend's Kindle Fire. It is definitely an Android device and inherits the flexibility of the Android OS.

As a reader it is pretty good. It has a bright screen and is light enough to hold and read for significant stretches of time. As a tablet it isn't bad. It isn't as nice as my iPad, but if I needed a smaller tablet for portability, the Kindle Fire would be the front runner.

So, if you already have an iPad and want an eReader with tablet capabilities that is smaller than the iPad, then the Fire might be what you need. But if you already have a tablet or an iPad, then chances are the Fire will probably be redundant.
